Yep, a huge improvement is coming to Neon Lightning Force in the form of a massive update.
Honestly, I left many ideas unfinished in this game due to my lack of experience with OpenBOR.
So, since mid last year, I’ve been working on a complete redesign of Neon Lightning Force so it can reach a quality level similar to Silver Night’s Crusaders or the future Fuerza Carmesí project (I think I finally found my own style when it comes to designing games xd).
What Will Be Updated in Neon Lightning Force?
Neon Lightning Force is already a complete game, so what I’m doing is a full redesign. Here are some of the things being updated:
- Most stages will be redesigned, since some of them feel too flat or lifeless.
- I’ll implement better animations for enemies, NPCs, and playable characters.
- Character balance will be improved in terms of power and speed. Some characters like Dr. Negishi are way too strong, while others are too weak.
- There will be a greater variety of weapons. The story takes place in a dangerous city, yet most criminals are unarmed xd.
- The motorcycle Bonus Stage will be improved. Right now, it feels more like bumper cars than an actual motorcycle chase xD.
- And many other details that I’ll continue showing through social media updates, mostly focused on better story coherence, level design, and gameplay mechanics.
For now, here are some screenshots of the current progress:

When Will This Mega Update Be Released?
I hope this massive Neon Lightning Force update can be released this year or early next year, since Fuerza Carmesí is currently on hiatus while I focus on this project.
Still, I can’t rule out the possibility of it taking another extra year, since there are still many things I need to learn about OpenBOR. Even so, I’m not giving up, because the goal is to redesign this game so it finally becomes what I originally imagined a True Role Dreams beat ’em up should be.
